Yale's co-ed sailing team is tracing footsteps set last year by Yale's men's ice hockey by winning national championships. Yale shocked the hockey world in 2013 with its surprising NCAA Division I title against uptown rival Quinnipiac. In June, 2014, Yale won both the Gill Dinghy National Championship (Fleet Race) and the ATP Team Race National Championship in co-ed sailing.
In the Gill Fleet Race, Yale finished ahead of second- and third-place Georgetown and Boston College on the St. Mary's River in Maryland. Other Ivy competitors included Dartmouth (8th), Brown (16th) and Harvard (18th). In the ATP Race, also on the St. Mary's river, Yale won for the second straight year, topping St. Mary's College (Md.) and Stanford.
Yale captain and skipper Graham Landy '15 received the Morris Trophy as the best college sailor in 2014. Clara Robertson '17 of Rye, who started a sailing team at Rye High School, is a member of the Yale team.
